AudioTools'sSpectrumAnalyzercomponentusesFFTonbatchesofsamplesrecordedatthemicrophone.Hannwindowingreducesaliasing.Recordedspectramaybestoredasfilesinthedevicememory,andthenloadedlateranddisplayedtogetherwiththelivespectrum.
The"Store"buttonwillstorethecurrentlivespectrum.The"Load"buttonbringsupalistofstoredspectra.Oneofthesecanbechosen,orthe"Cancel"itemselectedtoreturntothemaindisplay,orthe"Clear"itemselectedtoremovethecurrentlyloadedspectrum.
Datacollectioncanbepausedandrestarted.
ThedeciBelmetercomponentusesIIRfiltersandexponentialaveragingtocalculateFlat,AandCweightedresponseatspeedsofFast,MediumandSlow.
ApairofcursorscanbeshownontheRTAandChartRecorderdisplays:eachcanbemovedtoanyposition,andwilldisplaytheSPL&time/frequencyvaluesmeasuredthere.Initially,bothcursorsarepositionedmid-screen-simplydragthemtoanewpositionwiththefingertip.ThecursorscanbeturnedonandoffintheMenu.
Theloudspeakerpolaritycheckercanbeusedtocheckwhetheraloudspeakeriswiredinphase:connecttheAudioTooloutputtothespeakerundertest,select"Polarity"fromthesignalgeneratorscreen,thenreturntotheRTAscreen.Ifthespeakerisoutofphase(polarityreversed)AudioToolwillshow"Pol---",otherwise"Pol+++"ifthespeakerisinphase.
TheNoiseCriteria(availablefromtheMenu)functionshowsasetofNCcontoursoverlaidonthe1/1OctaveRTAdisplayandthecalculatedrealtimecurrentNCvalueisalsoshown.
TheChartRecordershowsamovingtraceoftheSPLmeasurementsoverthelastfewminutes.
Reverberation(RT60)measurementscanbemadebystartingtheRT60componentandusingaloudclap(orsimilar)totriggerthemeasurement.RT60timesmeasurehowmuchreverberationorechothereisinaroomorauditorium.
TheSignalGeneratorgeneratesWhiteandPinkNoise,Sine,Square,TriangleandRampwaves,andImpulses.ThegeneratorusesmultiplecycledbuffersthatarerefreshedrandomlysoensuringtrulyrandomWhite/Pinknoise.ThePinkNoisealgorithmusesKemmet'smethodtoadjustWhiteNoiseintoPink.
Sine/Square/Ramp/TriangleFrequencycanbesetviathearrowbuttonsordirectlyenteredusingthekeyboard.
TheImpulsesignalisadelta,issuedapproximatelyoncepersecond.
Theaccuracyinfrequencyofthegeneratedperiodicsignalsisquitegood:ontheiPad,errorswereoftheorderof1%throughoutmostoftherange.Sinewavefidelityisgoodthroughoutmostoftheaudiorange.Othersignals'leadingandtrailingedgesshowringinganddecreasingfrequencyresponseartefactsintheupperranges.
