HoldCalcProcalculatesthepreciseheadingsandtimesrequiredtoperformtheproperentryprocedure,andholdingpattern.Asimpleinputpageallowsapilottoquicklyentertheholddatawiththeonscreenkeyboardandselectorbuttons,withouttheneedtodirectattentionawayfromothertasks.Press"Calculate"toupdatetheanswerscreens:a"Graph"foranoverheadview,a"Text"pagelistingallthestepsfortheentryandtheholdingpattern,anda"PFD"pageallowingthepilottoseewhattheindicationsinthecockpitwouldlooklikewhileperformingeachstep.

Onceyourholdhasbeencalculatedthegraphviewallowsorientingtheholdasitwouldbeonachart(NorthUp)orwiththeholdingcoursetowardthetopofthescreen.Thegraphviewalsoincludesawinddirectionandspeedindicator,alegendforasenseofscale,aNorthindicator,andtheoutboundheadingandtimerequiredforthehold.Ayellow,segmentedlineindicatestheFAA's"70°line"fordeterminingwhichentryproceduretouse,andthislineisdrawn1NMtoeithersideofthefixtohelpwiththescaleofthehold.

Thetextviewplainlyshowstherequiredentryprocedure,andEVERYheadingneededtocompletetheentireentryandhold,aswellasthetimeforeachsegment.Nootherholdingpatterncalculatorgivesyoutheexactheadingsandtimestoflyfortheentryprocedure-thereisnoguessworkinvolvedingettingyoutolineupwiththeinboundcourseexactlyasyourolloutofyourturn.

ThePFDviewallowsthepilottoseewhattheindicationswilllooklikewhentheprocedureisexecutedproperly,helpinginstrumentstudentscomparetheproceduretotheinstrumentreadings,andenhancingthedevelopmentofsituationalawareness.

Comparedifferentviewsside-by-side(2viewsoniPhoneinlandscape,and3viewssimultaneouslyoniPad)andusetheplaybackcontrolstogothroughtheholdsecond-by-second.Theentryandholdaredividedintosegments,andasyoumovethroughtheprocedure(withthePlay,Next,andPrevbuttons)thegraphview,textview,andPFDviewshowasynchronizedmovementthrougheverysecond.Thisistheultimateinbuildingthevisualizationrequiredforinstrumentflying,astheoverheadviewclearlyshowswheretheplaneis,asthePFDshowsCDImovements,RMIneedles,DMEreadout,andeachsegmentcanbeplayed,andreplayed.Togetaquickpreviewoftheentirehold,settheplaybackspeedto8X,andtheplaybackto"Auto",andtheentireprocedurewillsequenceitself.

Fortheseasonedprofessionalpilot,the"answer"youwantisintheupper-leftcornerofthegraphview.Nomoreadjustingtheoutboundtimeorheadingtoeventuallygetthe"perfect"rolloutontheinbound.Justdoitthefirsttime.
