PoisonMaps(“POIsonMaps”)istheultimateappforfindingPointsofInterestanywhereintheworld.ItincludesmillionsofPOIsandroutes,allstoredonyourdeviceforuseevenwhenoffline.

TheappcontainseverypossiblecategoryofPOI:food,hotels,banks,toilets,fuelstations,touristattractions,leisure,parking,shops,hills,towns,transport,hospitals,churches,schools,libraries,civicbuildings,rescueservices,andmuchmuchmore.

Italsocontains4millionmilesofcolour-codedroutes,suchasrailways,subwaymaps,busroutes,cycleroutes,hikingtrailsandskipistes.ThePOIsandroutesarealltakenfromthefantasticOpenStreetMapproject.

Theappincludesmanyuniquefeatures:

•atoolbaratthebottomofthescreenthatallowsyoutodisplaywhatyouwantinjust2or3taps;

•signspointingtooffscreenPOIs,sothatyounevermissanearbyPOI;

•compass,radarandscannermodesthatdisplaythenearestPOIsindifferentways;

•auniquegesturethatallowsrapidpanningbytemporarilyzoomingout(using3DTouchwhenavailable);

•backandforwardbuttonsthathelpyouretracewhatyouhavelookedat(likeonabrowser);

•anAppleWatchappthatshowswhatyouwantinonlyafewtaps(orjustonetapofthecomplication);

CompassmodesimplyshowssignstothePOIs.Thisisparticularlyusefulwhenyoujustwanttoknowwhatisaroundyouorwhichwaytohead,andyouhaven’tgottimetoinspectamap,suchaswhencyclingorhiking.Italsoworksofflineandisperfectforpeoplewhohatemaps:theyjustfollowthesigntowheretheywanttogo.Itisalsogreatatviewpointstoidentifywhathills,townsandstructuresyoucansee.

RadarmodeandScannermodesaresimilarbutalsoincludeamapthatrotatesaroundthecurrentposition.Theyincluderadar“rings”toshowthedistancesfromthecurrentposition.ScannermodeuniquelypositionstheGPSdotatthebottomofthescreensothatyoucanseemuchmoreinformationinthedirectionthatyouarepointing.

Theuniquepanninggesturerequiresjustonetouchofonefingerinsteadofthemulti-fingergymnasticsrequiredbythetraditional“pinchtozoom”approach(althoughthatisstillavailable).Italsoprovidesaquickwayofzoomingoutandbackinagainwhenyouarenotsurewhatareathemapisshowing.Itisabrilliantandcompletelyoriginaluseof3DTouchbutalsoworksfineoniPhoneswithoutit(usingalongtouch).

TheAppleWatchappalsoallowsyoutoselectanycategoryinjustafewtaps.WhenyouhaveselectedacategorythenthenearestPOIsareshownonamini-mapwiththedetailslistedbelow.ThewatchappalsoprovidesnavigationtoaPOI,andyoucanevenphoneaPOIfromthewatch!

Thesearejustsomeoftheuniqueaspectsoftheapp.Alltheusualmapfeaturesarealsoprovided,suchassuper-fastsearching,directions,bookmarks,POIinformation,favouritingofbrands,andmuchmore.YoucanevencreateyourownPOIs,suchaswhereyouparkedyourcar.
